Strategies for coastal management: a choice model based approach of institutional stakeholder preferences for the manage- ment of the “Salina di Tarquinia”

Published 2014-07-11

Abstract

Protected area management is hindered by the different perspective that institutional stakeholders have on the main, in some cases, contrasting objectives to be reached. In order to get satisfying solutions, it is needed that the structure of the preferences among stakeholders be sufficiently known and defined. In this paper, the choice modelling approach is used to assess the importance of conflicting rival objectives, referring as a case study to the coastal protected area along the Tyrrhenian coast of Italy named “Salina di Tarquinia”. Results show that stakeholders prefer a centralized regime of management, probably to overcome all contrasts that numerous authorities having a right on this area usually exercised in the recent past.
