Abstract

The analysis of reading choices documented in 551 reading diaries completed by teachers participating in the “Leggere: Forte!” project during the 2023-24 school year reveals a marked preference for fiction, particularly narrative picture books, to the detriment of non-fiction as well as other literary genres such as fairy tales, poetry, and comics. The study therefore examines some of the most frequently read books and their defining characteristics, exploring the extent to which these selections reflect the principles of bibliodiversity and support reading for pleasure. Finally, it proposes ways of strengthening and expanding existing strategies aimed at fostering a richer and more diverse reading experience.
