Abstract
This article focuses on the topic of educational work in residential care services for mothers and children, stressing the need to take into account the role of fathers, who tend to be excluded from educational projects addressed to children and mothers. However, a whole family approach to educational work (Donati, 2011; Serbati, Milani, 2013; Bastianoni, Taurino, Zullo, 2011; Di Blasio, 2005) that includes fathers requires the creation of appropriate conditions at the residential care facility, starting from the re-organization of neutral space and the design of places for families where spending time together. Everyday life – which represents a key focus for educational work with mothers and children – may also represent a relevant reference point for setting up projects enhancing fathers’role.
