Abstract
In this paper, we consider parenting education as a strategy for building a responsible parenting style. We define the educational need of fathers and problematize the concept of ‘responsible paternity’, starting from a re-reading of the category of authority. The perspective adopted in this study emphasizes the active, critical and self-critical role of fatherhood and suggests educational counseling as a valid tool to support the reflective processes of research and continuing redefinition of the educational paternal identity. Therefore, according to a ‘promotional’ educational approach, the educational responsibility of the father requires a reflective parenting style. Consequently, the actions of parenthood education may be better to be enframed in a reflective and transformative perspective of adult learning.
