TECHNE: Special Series Vol. 3

Issue Description

This TECHNE Special Issue n. 3/2025, Beyond All Limits – Changing limits into opportunities, gathers a selection of studies originally presented at the 2022 International Conference “Beyond All Limits”, held in San Leucio and published by DADI Press.

The issue explores the interdisciplinary frontiers of the bio-culture paradigm as a generative framework for redefining approaches, methods, and tools to address the challenges of the post-Anthropocene. In an era of growing specialization, “Beyond all limits” calls for cross-fertilization among disciplinary fields, fostering integrated and adaptive design visions.

The collected contributions span multiple scales, from fragile inner territories and adaptive reuse of historical industrial heritage to urban regeneration and ecological transition. Case studies reveal strategies for the circular use of resources, the integration of nature-based solutions, and the co-creation of knowledge and value with local communities. The conservation and adaptive reuse of architectural and landscape heritage emerge as key levers for sustainability and decarbonisation, often underestimated in resilience planning.

Further essays focus on participatory and collaborative design, highlighting the role of universities as catalysts for eco-sustainable regeneration through physical and digital living labs. Studies on digital representation, Life-Centered Design, and One Health propose a reconnection between city and nature, where technologies foster new interspecies habitats. The issue closes with reflections on the fashion industry and “fast architecture”, advocating for long-term, culturally rooted design processes opposed to consumerist logics.
