Abstract
The paper analyses the identity transformation of women in a situation of vulnerability, during pregnancy. It outlines the theoretical and methodological premises of the pathways of educational and social support, in the choice of renouncing parenthood through anonymous birth or entering motherhood by joining a mother-child community. The analysis of the two paths mentioned allows us to identify the complexity of identity transformations in the transition to motherhood for women, in situations of fragility. At the same time, this allows us to understand how the prejudices and stereotypes in society influence both the decision to become a mother and later maternal responsiveness. Here, the renunciation of parenthood in the context of anonymous childbirth is valued as a gesture of care towards the child.
