Abstract

The essay focuses on the transformation of the concept of care resulting from transnational mothers’ migration; migration that helped to change traditional family relationships and, more than anything else, to change the relationships between genders, and generations. At the same time, the migration process contributes to transform the concept of care and of the principles the system of welfare is based on, that, now, seem to be unable to respond to the social needs and care demands of the so-called “dependency workers”. The vulnerable condition of these women calls into question the social and educational institutions, which must commit themselves to promoting reflection on the link between power, emotion, and responsibility.
