Abstract
The subject of this essay deals with experiences of communitarian life and in particular on co-housing, a form of co-residence aiming to turn urban spaces into new social neighbourhood places. Co-housing represents a midway between life in apartment and life in a “wilful community” where it is possible to share deeply a common way of life: people live separately in their apartments but share some common spaces. This article essentially try answer to the question if co-housing can be a privileged place where it is possible for people to experience a lifestyle characterised by an active participation and sociability. In order to examine this phenomenon, the author interviewed some members of a main Italian Associations at regional level, that is Cohousing in Toscana. Although at present the results of the case study show that the Tuscan Association has not realised any co-housing settlements yet, however it’s carrying out a specific planning both in urban and country contexts: this paper refers specifically to this phase.
