Abstract

In contemporary society, the practice of walking has taken a central role and importance, that can be found in many aspects, from the success of slow tourism to the demand for alternative mobility to the car. The three main values behind this success are sustainability, health, and slowness. Against the background outlined by these terms, the text reflects on some recurring ways of the design for walking space in the city. Some limits are highlighted, attributable both to the prev-alence of performance logics, and decorative attitudes. A precise observation of the sidewalks and their practices of use, also in relation to new and specific needs (for example related to the pandemic, or the aging population), it can reassign the necessary relevance to the project of the space on which we walk.
