Abstract

How does a community, living in an ecosystem complex like the tropical forest, develop new ways to have a productive relationship with the forest? The article presents the case study of the village of Uaxactún in Guatemala to show new ways of cohabiting the forest. The search for new alliances between man and forest also corresponds to new economies. The settlement, whose birth is closely linked to the productive capacity of the forest, allows us to start a broader reflection on the interaction between man and the biosphere, between the plurality of the anthropic and ecosystem subject. The new form of rurality presented coincides with collective management of the forest; at the same time, a specific Amerindian vision of nature and ways of making and being landscape emerges, through the various phases of production practice.
The case study is investigated through fieldwork carried out in 2023 within the PhD in Landscape and Environment.
