Abstract

The conference Our Shared Landscape held in Ascona (Ch) in past May, it’s been a kind of periodic date for take stock of the state of things about landscape perception and its visual, aesthetic, social and economical aspects. It’s been the third meeting of a chain started in the United States in 1979, with the conference Our National Landscape and went on in 1999 with the conference Our Visual Landscape. The distribution in the time of this three meetings and the different slant that they took in the three historical moments are representative of the tendency of the cultural debate about this issues: in 1979 they were pre-eminent but for the next twenty years they undergo a progressive lost of interest, till it’s been felt the necessity of rediscover the value of these issues, at first in strictly visual terms and then evolving the debate toward the related aesthetic and social values and toward the integration of this several aspects.
