Abstract
The paper presents two case-studies developed in the research Lands of the river. The case studies are characterised by a high complexity level and by the integration between the several issues in relation to the interpretation methodologies and in relation to the responses system. The Rhine river basin experience and the Blue Ribbon Network (Greater London Plan 2004) were chosen in order of their complexity and of their innovation developed in the proposals and in the instruments (methodologies and responses). The paper underlines the innovation aspects, first of all in order of the integration between the different issues of the relationships between the man and the river and their vision aimed to the sustainable development of the whole environment system. The aims of the research is to define responses systems (policies, plans and projects) in relation to the different declination of the spatial, time and context variables, based on homogeneous factors/concepts of lectures and responses (vulnerability, resilience, network and system).
