The view from the street. Modelli di mobilità e paesaggi urbani

Abstract

Mobility is one of the main factors affecting the organization and the urban landscape. After recalling some major aspects of the transformations produced in European cities by the rapid development of electrical public transport networks in the late nineteenth century, and by the explosion of mass motorization in the mid-twentieth, the contribution focuses on EU’s engagement in promoting multimodal transport as a lever of sustainability: a change of paradigm in urban mobility, which, in a few decades, may radically change again the image of the city.
