Abstract

During the long history of the Persian civilization GARDENS have had played a fundamental role in the organization of human settlements, their relationships with the Landscape, as well as in the art and the technologies that developed throughout their construction. Imaginative, mysterious and well organized at the same time, the GARDEN is a very built landscape, interposed between every town and its own Life environment, normally severe and sometime hostile, but potentially fertile and rich. The GARDENS of ancient Persia and their history, the condition of the environment and the landscape, the management of primary resources, the aesthetic and functional acknowledgement that Persian Society can attribute to the landscape and to green areas become essential for our contemporary condition. The case of Tehran, the process of its formation, accompanied by the construction of the gardens, becomes emblematic to understand what the organization of the Gardens meant in the past and the further potentialities that they can still express in our contemporary condition.
