Abstract

Today’s city coincides with large urbanized areas or better with metropolitan regions where the majority of the world population live and work. This urban type is the city in extension, an attribute that refers to a growth process, in constant extension. In this urban type not live only the majority of the world population, but also the youngest. Today the projects have to contend with this kind of city and the themes to consider are: on one side the facilities’ system for the city and the public spaces, on the other a new city landscape integrated with the open green spaces of the urban countryside. Long since the instruments of city’s growth control and urbanization’s quality have tested some project’s practices. These practices can be distinguished in five different complementary approaches: work with the hedges, with structure on a large scale, with ecological networks, with polarities, with new urban paths.
