Abstract

Pocket Parks for All. The development of residual spaces as opportunities for an inclusive city, represents an ongoing interdisciplinary research conducted by a Working Group of the DIDA, Department of Architecture, and supported by the University of Florence. ‘Residual spaces’ stands for all the casual, neglected, interstitial, degraded and forgotten areas of the city that are small in size and with uncertain morphology. The research investigates these areas devoid of identity or underused, with the aim of recognizing strategies and methods for their identification, enhancement and transformation in forms of space that will allow the establishment of new kinds of aggregation and social relations for the well-being of the community. The main contribution is the innovative character of this research: the methodology of the interventions included in micro-scale in a network strategy (urban acupuncture); the use of new methods of confrontation with scholars and experts (the round-table); the narrowing of the field of application of the historic centers with the case-study of the historical center of Florence.
