Abstract

The paper explores the integration of technological and environmental requirements in the architectural design, as these are recently defined by the European and national policy pieces. It analyses how environmental sustainability objectives, requirements and reference indicators are addressed in the design process, from the architectural concept design to technological and construction choices in detailed design. Hence, the paper compares the European framework Level(s) with the Criteri Ambientali Minimi per l’edilizia (the national GPP rules for the building sector), to highlight similarities and differences and to understand if designers are provided with a comprehensive set of instructions (norms, standards, databases and tools) to include this information in the project.
