Abstract
This contribution aims to conduct a critical reflection on parental responsiveness by applying this pedagogical category within same-sex family contexts to analyse the educational strategies that same-sex parents implement to support their children’s growth in a political and cultural context, such as the Italian one, which still does not recognize these “families” as fully legitimate citizens. The topic is explored by drawing on relevant literature and revisiting the findings of a qualitative research study that—while not aiming for generalizations—has allowed for the exploration of the experiences of several lesbian mothers and gay fathers and highlights the aspects and factors that have both encouraged and hindered their ability to respond effectively to the challenges of parenthood.
