Abstract
Mass tourism can destroy the sense of the landscape in areas of extraordinary value. Howether, if it is lead by curiosity towards diversity and by the search for a cultural and psychophysical enrichment, tourism can also act as a driving force for pursuing a balanced local development. While mass tourism entails, implicitly, the disruption of the landscape, some specific measures can be activated for promoting a “motivated” tourism as a driving force for local development and landscape valorisation.
